Engaging the public

The RSPB in partnership with the Lothian and Borders Raptor Study Group, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and the Scottish Seabird Centre are running a live Sparrowhawk public viewing programme at the Environmental Gateway Centre at the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh. You can follow the family saga of a sparrowhawk family being raised within the Botanic Garden and RSPB staff and volunteers will be available to help you interpret the breeding behaviour and answer any questions.

You will also be able to attend the following events to find out more about Sparrowhawks and other garden wildlife:

  • 15 May 2011 (1pm to 4pm) - Sparrowhawk Sunday at the RBGE (Environmental Gateway Centre) – A family fun day where you can learn more about these fascinating urban predators.
  • 14 June 2011 (5:30 – 6:30) – Sparrowhawks in the City (RBGE Lecture Theatre, Inverleith Road) – A public lecture which will provide an insight into the ecology and breeding behaviour of Edinburgh's breeding Sparrowhawks.
  • 16 and 17 July 2011 (1pm to 4pm) – Sparrowhawk weekend at the RBGE (Environmental Gateway Centre) – A family fun event where you can find out more about these fascinating urban predators.
  • 3 August 2011 (5:30 – 6:30) - Sparrowhawks in the City (RBGE Lecture Theatre, Inverleith Road) – A public lecture which will provide an insight into the ecology and breeding behaviour of Edinburgh's breeding Sparrowhawks.
